Over Spring Break, four Scouts backpacked 50+ miles (three of them went 60!) through the Pine Barrens on South Jersey’s premiere long distance hiking trail – the Batona Trail. They followed the pink blazes past old iron towns, along roads as older as the USA, through the many burned areas from all of the recent fires (up to 4 years ago and as recent as last week), and past a monument to the Lindbergh of Mexico, Emilio Carranza. They saw fence lizards, heard a pack of coyotes howling, saw a meteor burn, and watched the astronauts land (okay, that part wasn’t along the trail).
But mostly they grew closer together and they helped each other through a very challenging adventure. Great job guys!
